img_8659At Catch a Fish Wellness we are unique to this particular speciality because our main practitioner Brian Wah and his wife did not begin trying for a family until the ages of 37 and 35, respectively.

In preparation for this event Brian’s wife received Acupressure massage a few times per week, acupuncture, dietary therapy, great sleep, foot massages often, and keeping stress low were the keys to a happy baby boy, followed a few years later by a happy baby girl and a few more years later by another happy baby girl. Acupressure massage, performed by an expert, is not the typical spa massage or the one dollar per minute massage at the mall it’s a complete system that takes years to learn to become an expert.  You can receive Acupressure Massage from CAF on a weekly basis and we can also teach the skills to give a great foot massage at home.  This is great skill to learn not only pre-pregnancy but also during pregnancy and to help each other de-stress post delivery and to tend to each other for years after.  Kids also love foot massage!  A happy and de stressed Mom, Dad and kids make for a super happy family filled with patience, understanding and love.

Over the past 5 years Chinese Medicine (which includes Acupuncture, Herbs and Massage) has received a lot of press for its effectiveness on increasing both female and male fertility rates.  You see it on the news, on your friend’s facebook feed,  popular shows like Dr. Oz’s Fertility Episode and in many research studies being performed in America, Europe and Asia.  We love the work we do in supporting the fertility process and love the happy babies we see and welcome to the world!  No better feeling!

For anyone who has received acupuncture, asian massage treatments or herbal medicine it’s not all that elusive.  The majority of patients who start Chinese Medicine have terrible sleep, high stress, not much practice on how to de stress, digestion that’s either too hot (burning reflux) or too cold (bloating, gas, low motility), neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, weak knees, waking up exhausted and a poor sex drive.  Once these issues are taken care of it’s no surprise that fertility “suddenly” wakes up and we have a new baby on the way!!  🙂  Not only does fertility wake up but in essence your whole body begins to wake up.

Acupuncture Testimonial“Brian is the best! He helped me tremendously while I was struggling with fertility treatments. He assured me that after 2 months of acupuncture, I would have much better results with IVF and he was right! I saw a huge difference in the outcome of my IVF cycle compared to my cycle before starting acupuncture.

Brian also has a great schedule and he’s very flexible. He rearranged his personal schedule on several occasions just so he could treat me when I needed it. He also came on on his day off, a Sunday, just to treat me the day of my embryo transfer. Not many people are willing to do that!”

And we have the opposite group of women and men that feel fairly healthy but can’t conceive. They usually say, “We’re doing ALL the right things but it’s just not happening.”  This group usually comes in and they eat close to a vegetarian diet, maybe one time a week lean meats, a lot of dairy, a lot of salads, raw fruits, smoothies and fresh fruits.  This group tends to be too deficient in their body type and does not have the essential building blocks (according to Chinese Medicine) to be highly fertile.  With herbs, diet and treatment we heat up the body and strengthen the body.  Energy levels pick up, sleep returns and sexual activity picks up.  A huge lesson that all the “right” things, according to the media, are often the totally the “wrong” things for a deficient body type. Set up your first appointment to see where your body falls on the spectrum.

The most common question we get at Catch a Fish Wellness (CAF) is how does sticking a few needles into a person increase the potential for having a happy healthy baby?  The number one body function that acupuncture, massage and herbs are great at is increasing blood flow throughout the body and reducing inflammation.  In research where they used thermography to examine acupuncture’s effect on knee pain.  The results are incredible as you can see the effects on knee inflammation pain below:

You can see this happen again and again on any pain or any body area that’s not functioning properly and not getting enough blood flow.  This leads us to the question: What is Chinese Medicine’s definition of health?  Chinese Medicine defines health as “Smooth flowing, nutritious, highly oxygenated blood coursing freely through the body.”  Any disruption in this for an extended period of time and you have pain, sickness and disease.

When our patients first begin treatment they have a lot of worry on their mind and a ton of anxiety about what is the right and best things to eat and do as there’s so much conflicting information.  Why does one food or supplement help one population group so much and hinders or does the exact opposite to another group?  It’s because medicine, herbs and food prescriptions should be given based on the individual not as blanket statements across the board. At Catch a Fish Wellness we give dietary advice, herbal formulas, life style changes and acupuncture based on your unique set of wellness challenges and the “climate” of your body.  The climate of your body is the foundation for how Chinese Medicine treats illness and disease. Your body could be too Hot, too Cold, too Dry, too Damp, too Stagnant. Many in Chinese Medicine like to compare one’s body to a Garden’s health.  For example, if you’re a gardener would you give the same gardening advice for the plants below?

Of course not!  Each plant is suffering from vastly different climates (too hot, too cold, too dry, too damp, too much mold).  This is exactly what’s happening in dietary advice, herbal advice and lifestyle advice. Across the board dietary advice doesn’t help everyone and definitely does not heal the garden as a whole.  For example:  The dietary plan of eating all raw foods worked for your neighbor because they have an inherent “heat” condition and the raw “cooled” down the heat.  If you have a “cold” condition eating a diet that’s based on “cold” will cause bloating and gas and may you feel horrible.  Those herbs recommended by your favorite blog article works great if your body is set up for that particular herb.  Meaning if you have too much “dampness” and that herb’s job is to get rid of dampness then it works.  If your body is too dry and you ingest herbs that make you more dry…you suddenly become wayyy too dry…so your symptoms would get more severe.  It’s about what the individual person needs. When you go in for your first treatment at CAF we can tell you what is the climate of your body and gear yourself toward herbs, foods and life styles that help you get well.

Acupuncture Testimonial“I went to Brian for about six months to help with fertility issues. This was my first experience with acupuncture, and it was very positive. Brian helped me completely redesign my diet to help my body become stronger in order to hold a pregnancy. He has a very calming bedside manner and is very professional. I highly recommend him.”

When we perform your initial examination and diagnosis we’ll determine if your body is either too hot, too cold, too stagnant and too excess or deficient.  Then we’ll set the course for your treatment plan and slowly build you up and start to check off the health issues one by one. As your body regains strength and starts to de stress your organ systems will start to work in harmony again.  How do we know?  We will feel in your pulse these changes.  More importantly, you’ll feel so much better and we’ll hopefully see it in your blood work from your doctor also.

To determine if you’re a good candidate for acupuncture please schedule your first treatment today and we’ll determine how effective acupuncture will be for you. To schedule call our office at: (703) -278-2271 during regular business hours or send an email anytime (we typically respond within 1-4 hours):admin@catchafishLLC.com

We look forward to getting to know you and show you how to catch your own fish toward feeling better!
