Anxiety and depression is the third most common reason people seek our help at Catch a Fish Acupuncture & Wellness.  28% of Americans will suffer from Anxiety and Depression in their lifetime.  The statistics we found in 2014 revealed that Abilify was ranked #1 in sales for its use for depression and Cymbalta was ranked #17 in sales for its use with anxiety and depression.

What we’ve found at Catch a Fish Acupuncture & Wellness is if a patient responds well to acupuncture for pain relief then there is a high probability that our patient’s symptoms of anxiety and depression will also respond very well. The people that seek our care range from mild feelings of anxiety every day at work to more severe feelings of overwhelm and unable to cope with the stressors of every day interactions.  Avoiding crowds, going to the store at off hours, finding work that allows for remote log in .  For some patients it is a more lengthy process of stops and starts and ramping up the stressors and then adapting to them with new found confidence and skills and for others it’s a straight path of improvement.  If no effects are seen after the fifth treatment then most likely it’s not a good fit and we’ll try to find a modality for you to try next.  (Click here to see video or written testimonials.)

At Catch a Fish we have a three stage approach for helping our patients with Anxiety and Depression. (Most of our patients with Anxiety and Depression are already in therapy with a counselor of their choice. We recommend this in concert with Acupuncture.)  The first stage is building up our patients and making them feel stronger and more vibrant with acupuncture and/or massage. We also look at dietary changes and herbs according to the patient’s individual body type.  Generally, we see one main weakness in their system which is triggering the symptoms.  The second stage is opening up the body and any tensions that may be hindering treatment. Often our patients have a learned way of holding their bodies that locks in the disorder. The third stage is to teach basic wellness practices of how to calm the mind and body with breath and meditation.

Testimonial“I came to Brian with several longstanding issues: a bad back, tendinitis in my arm, and some deep, unrelenting feelings of sadness. Although previous treatments–massage and psychotherapy specifically–had offered some relief, nothing seemed to get to the heart of the matter. After working with Brian for several months, my back and tendinitis dissipated and the source of my sadness became clear. The combination of Brian’s extraordinary spirit and Catch a Fish’s Wellness plan  (which I had never done before) did the job. For this–and for Brian–I feel enormous gratitude.”
